Bildbeschreibung
Charlottenburg
In March 2005 the Egyptian Museum in the Stülerbau Ost in Charlottenburg closed its doors in order to move to the Museum Island. New perspectives have thus been opened for the Charlottenburg location: the two Stüler buildings will in future be a centre for classical modernism, with the accent placed on French works. In 2004 the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation entered into an agreement to incorporate the high-ranking Scharf-Gerstenberg surrealism collection into the National Gallery. This collection of over 200 masterpieces portrays the history of Fantastic Art from Piranesi to Dalí. From mid-2008 onwards it will be on display in the Stülerbau Ost, situated across from the Museum Berggruen, which houses works of classic modern art under the title “Picasso and his Time”. The modification work associated with this new arrangement was designed by Sunder-Plassmann Architects of Kappeln and has started in December 2005.
